Description
This boxwood flute stamped "GEO. RUDALL / 5.CLEMENTS.INN / LONDON" with "GEO: RUDALL / WILLIS / FECIT" on the foot and "C" underneath the low C keytouch comprises five sections fitted with silver keys. Ten slim silver ferrules, eight of which are paired, band the instrument along with a wider silver foot ferrule, and a metal-lined head features an ivory screw-stopper. A wood-covered, non-graduated tuning slide is present, and the large oval embouchure hole is bushed with ivory. Finger holes are notably large, particularly for the second fingers of both hands, and the low C and C♯ touches overlap. Keys are mounted on knobs with metal-lined channels for all except the upper C, long F, and upper mount for the low C/C♯; double springs operate the G♯, long F, and D♯ keys, while metal pins pass through the long F keymounts. Keyheads feature pewter plugs screwed into place with metal-lined key holes and metal key hole surrounds on the foot. Slim touches characterize the long keys. Overall length measures 652 mm without cap.
